Effective 29 August 2026Applies to the LifeSpace Android application
LifeSpace is a private diary and journal. These terms explain what you can
expect from the app, what we ask of you, and — most importantly — how your
encrypted entries work, because that part cannot be undone if it goes
wrong.
1 Accepting these terms
LifeSpace ("the app") is provided by Shankar Ghule, trading as Life Space
App, based in Pune, Maharashtra, India ("we", "us"). By installing or
using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please
uninstall the app.
These terms work alongside our
Privacy Policy, which describes what
data the app handles and what stays on your device.
2 Who may use LifeSpace
You must be at least 13 years old to use LifeSpace. If you are in the
European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you must be at least 16, or
have permission from a parent or guardian.
You must also be able to form a binding contract where you live. If you
are using the app on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are allowed
to do so.
3 Accounts and sign-in
Most of LifeSpace works with no account at all. You can write, edit and
keep entries without ever signing in.
Signing in with Google is optional and is used for one thing: backing up
and restoring your diary through your own Google Drive. You are
responsible for keeping that Google account secure. If you sign in on a
shared device, anyone with access to it may reach the backups linked to
that account.
4 Your entries belong to you
Everything you write, photograph, record or design in LifeSpace is yours.
We claim no ownership of it, and we do not sell it, train on it, or share
it.
Your entries are stored encrypted on your device. We have no server-side
copy of them and no way to read them. The only copies that leave your
device are the backups you choose to make to your own Google Drive — see
section 5 for how those are unlocked.
You are responsible for the content you create — including that you have
the right to use any photo, video or audio you add.
5 Encryption and data loss
LifeSpace encrypts your diary database and your media files on your
device. The key that unlocks them is generated on your device and held in
your device's secure storage. We never hold that key and it is never sent
to our servers.
Your key travels with your backup
If you turn on Google Drive backup, a copy of that key is stored in
your own Google Drive, in a private folder that only
LifeSpace can see. This is what makes a backup usable: without the key,
an encrypted backup could never be opened again, not even by you.
So the key goes to your Google account — not to us. You do not need to
write it down or keep it anywhere yourself.
What this means for recovery
With a Drive backup: you can restore your diary on a
new device by signing in with the same Google account. Losing your
phone does not mean losing your entries.
Without a backup: your entries exist only on that one
device. If you lose it, uninstall the app, clear its data or reset the
device, they are gone permanently. We hold no copy and there is no
support override that can bring them back.
Please turn on backup before you rely on LifeSpace for anything you would
be upset to lose.
Keep your Google account secure
Because your key is kept in your Google Drive, the safety of your backup
is the safety of that Google account. Anyone who gains access to it may
be able to restore your diary. We strongly recommend turning on two-step
verification for the account you back up to.
Your PIN is separate
The PIN and biometric lock protect the app on your device. Your PIN is
stored on that device only, as a one-way hash — it is never uploaded, we
never see it, and we cannot reset or recover it.
The PIN is not what encrypts your backup, so forgetting it does not
destroy your entries if you have a backup: reinstalling and restoring
lets you set a new one.
6 Backups and restore
Backups are written to your own Google Drive, under your own account,
together with the key needed to open them
(section 5). We do not store them and cannot
access them. Their availability, storage limits and retention are
governed by Google's terms, not ours.
We do our best to make backup and restore reliable, but we cannot
guarantee that every backup will complete or that every restore will
succeed — for example if a backup was interrupted, if Drive storage is
full, or if a file was removed from Drive. Please verify that your
backups exist and check them from time to time.
7 Premium subscriptions
LifeSpace offers optional paid subscriptions that unlock premium
templates, fonts, backgrounds, stickers and other features. Subscriptions
are sold and billed by Google Play, not directly by us.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval shown at purchase
until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time from your Google Play account. Cancelling
stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already
paid for.
Refunds are handled by Google under Google Play's refund policy. We
cannot issue refunds for purchases made through Google Play.
Prices may change. Where a change affects a subscription you already
hold, Google will notify you and you may cancel before it takes effect.
If your subscription ends, premium content becomes locked again. Entries
you already created with premium content are not deleted and remain
yours, though you may no longer be able to apply that content to new
entries.
8 Ads and reward unlocks
LifeSpace may show advertising, and may offer optional rewarded ads that
unlock a premium item temporarily. Where an unlock is described as
lasting a set period, that period is what you receive — it is not a
permanent purchase.
Ads are supplied by third-party networks. We do not control which
individual adverts are shown. Our
Privacy Policy explains what those
networks receive and how to manage consent for personalised advertising.
9 Templates, fonts and stickers
The app includes designs, templates, fonts, backgrounds and stickers that
we or our licensors provide. You may use them inside LifeSpace to create
your own entries, and you may export and share what you create.
You may not extract, redistribute or resell that content on its own, or
use it outside the app as if it were yours. Fonts supplied through Google
Fonts remain subject to their own open-source licences.
We may add, change or withdraw templates and other content over time,
including content delivered to the app after installation.
10 Acceptable use
Please do not:
Use LifeSpace to store or share material that is illegal where you
live, or that depicts the abuse or exploitation of children.
Attempt to break, bypass or reverse-engineer the app's encryption,
licence checks or subscription controls.
Interfere with our services, or with the services LifeSpace depends on.
Use the app to infringe someone else's copyright, privacy or other
rights.
Resell or redistribute the app or its bundled content.
Because your entries are encrypted and we cannot read them, we do not
monitor what you write. Enforcement of this section is limited to what we
can actually see — for example, messages you send us through the help
centre, or reports we receive.
11 Changes to the app
We update LifeSpace regularly. Features may be added, changed or removed,
and some features depend on services outside our control — Google Play,
Google Drive, and the services that deliver templates and configuration
to the app.
We may need to interrupt the app for maintenance, or discontinue it
entirely. If we discontinue it, we will give reasonable notice through the
app or the Play Store listing where we are able to, so that you can back
up your entries.
12 Ending your use
You can stop using LifeSpace at any time by uninstalling it. Uninstalling
removes the app's local data from your device, including your encrypted
entries. Backups already in your Google Drive are not removed by
uninstalling; you can delete those from Drive yourself.
We may suspend or end your access to our services if you seriously or
repeatedly breach these terms — in particular section 10.
13 Disclaimers
LifeSpace is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent
permitted by law, we make no warranties that the app will be
uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet your particular
requirements.
In particular, and without limiting section 5: we do not warrant that
your entries, media or backups will always be preserved, recoverable or
free from corruption. Please keep your own backups of anything
you cannot afford to lose.
Nothing in these terms excludes any rights you have under consumer law
that cannot be excluded by agreement.
14 Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or
consequential loss, loss of data, loss of profit, or loss of goodwill
arising from your use of LifeSpace.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited
to the greater of the amount you paid us for LifeSpace in the twelve
months before the claim, or INR 1,000.
Again, this does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law,
including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for
fraud.
15 Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Pune,
Maharashtra have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if
you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also have the right to
bring proceedings in your own country of residence, and mandatory
consumer-protection rules there continue to apply to you.
16 Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. The effective date at the
top of this page always shows the current version. When a change
materially affects your rights, we will give notice in the app or on the
Play Store listing before it takes effect.
Continuing to use LifeSpace after a change takes effect means you accept
the updated terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the app.
17 Contact
Questions about these terms, or about your account, are welcome. We aim
to reply within a few working days.
